How to use the png to jpg converter
- Drop PNG files onto the drop zone or click to choose them. WebP, GIF and BMP files are accepted too.
- Set the quality. 85 to 95 keeps text and sharp edges clean; lower values make smaller files.
- Choose the background colour for transparent areas. White is the default.

Worked example
A logo with a transparent background
On a white background, fully transparent pixels become pure white and fully opaque pixels keep their colour. A red pixel (255, 0, 0) at 50% opacity becomes about (255, 127, 127), the same pink you see when the PNG is shown on a white page. Choose another colour if the JPG will sit on a dark page.
How it works
Each image is decoded by the browser, drawn onto a canvas that is first filled with your background colour (so transparent and semi-transparent pixels blend with it) and encoded with the browser's JPEG encoder at your quality setting. GIFs are converted from their first frame.
Assumptions
- JPEG quality numbers vary slightly between browsers; judge the result visually.
- Re-encoding removes EXIF and other metadata.

Are my files uploaded?
No. Images are processed in your browser on your own device and are never sent to our server. The page keeps working if you go offline after it loads.
What happens to transparency?
JPG has no transparency. Transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick, and semi-transparent edges are blended with it. Keep the PNG if you need a transparent background.
Which quality should I use?
90 is a safe default. Photos look fine at 75 to 85. Screenshots, text and logos show JPEG artefacts sooner, so keep them at 90 or above, or keep them as PNG.
Why is my JPG bigger than the PNG?
PNG compresses flat-colour graphics very well, while JPEG is designed for photos. Small logos and icons can grow when converted. The tool flags any file that got larger.
Limitations
- Images up to 50 MB each are accepted. Very large images (tens of megapixels) depend on device memory, and iPhones and iPads limit canvases to about 16.7 megapixels.
- JPEG is lossy: some detail is lost at every quality setting.
- Animated GIF, APNG and animated WebP files are converted as a single frame.
- Up to 100 files per batch.
