How to use the jpg to pdf
- Drop your images onto the drop zone or click to choose them (JPG, PNG or WebP).
- Put them in page order by dragging or with the up and down buttons.
- Choose the page size (A4, US Letter or fit to image), the orientation and a margin.
- Click Create PDF and download it.
Worked example
A 2000 x 1000 pixel photo on a US Letter page
On a portrait Letter page (612 x 792 points) with medium margins of 36 points, the printable area is 540 x 720 points. The photo is scaled to 540 x 270 points and centred, leaving 261 points above and below. With orientation set to Auto, the tool would use a landscape page instead because the photo is wider than tall.
How it works
JPEG files are embedded unchanged with pdf-lib (no re-compression). PNGs are embedded losslessly. WebP is not a PDF image format, so WebP images are drawn to a canvas and converted to JPEG at quality 92, or to PNG when they contain transparency. Phone photos that store their rotation in EXIF are placed upright by rotating them on the page, without re-encoding.
Assumptions
- With "Fit to image", 1 image pixel becomes 1 point, so a page is shown at 72 dpi and keeps full resolution when zoomed.
- Images are scaled to fit inside the margins, keeping their proportions.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. Your PDF is processed in your browser on your own device and is never sent to our server. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool still works.
Does converting reduce image quality?
Not for JPG and PNG, which are embedded as they are. WebP images are converted to JPEG at quality 92 (or PNG if they have transparency), which the tool notes in the result.
Why is my PDF so large?
The PDF contains your images at full resolution, so it is about the size of the images combined. To make it smaller, compress or resize the images first with the image compressor.
Can I mix portrait and landscape photos?
Yes. With orientation set to Auto, each image gets a portrait or landscape page to match its shape.
Limitations
- Up to 200 images, each up to 50 MB and 400 MB in total. Large batches depend on device memory.
- GIF, HEIC and other formats are not accepted. Convert them to JPG or PNG first.
- Images are not compressed, so the PDF is roughly as large as the images combined.
