How to use the aeo content readiness checker
- Enter a page URL, or paste a draft as plain text or HTML.
- Run the check to see each signal marked Present, Partial or Not found with what was found.
- Start with structure: one clear H1, question-style subheadings and a 40 to 60 word answer right under each question.
- Add authorship, dates and structured data where they are true, and review AI crawler access if you checked a URL.
Worked example
Roofing contractor draft (sample text)
The sample has one H1, two question headings and a list. The first answer is 56 words and the second is 30, so the direct answers signal shows 1 of 2 in the 40 to 60 word range. Structured data, author, dates and contact details are reported as not found, because the draft does not include them.
How it works
The page (or your draft converted to simple HTML) is parsed into headings, sections and text. Signals are checked with transparent rules: heading levels without skips, headings that start with question words or end with "?", the word count of the first paragraph after each question heading, counts of lists, tables and definition-style sentences, JSON-LD types, author markup, dates in time elements, meta tags or schema, organisation and contact details, restrictive robots meta tags and, for URLs, robots.txt access for verified AI crawler tokens.
Assumptions
- Signals are heuristics based on common guidance for clear, quotable content.
- Readability uses an English-language approximation.
Frequently asked questions
Does this predict whether ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI Overviews will cite my page?
No. No one outside those companies controls or can measure whether AI systems cite a page, so there is no visibility score. The signals describe how clearly your content is structured.
What is a good direct answer?
A short paragraph, roughly 40 to 60 words, that answers the question in the heading on its own, followed by detail. It helps readers and makes accurate quoting easier.
Is FAQ schema still worth adding?
Google no longer shows FAQ rich results, but FAQPage is still valid schema.org that describes your questions and answers. Only mark up questions that are visible on the page.
Do you store the URLs I check?
No results are stored. The URL is fetched from our server only to produce the report, and requests are rate limited per visitor to prevent abuse. Private, local and reserved network addresses are refused.
Limitations
- Heuristics cannot judge accuracy, originality or expertise, which matter most.
- URL mode reads raw HTML without running JavaScript.
- Limited to 30 URL checks per visitor every 10 minutes.
