How to use the gif maker
- Drop up to 100 images (PNG, JPG or WebP, up to 20 MB each).
- Drag frames or use the arrows to put them in order.
- Set how long each frame shows (one time for all, or per frame), the width and the loop setting.
- Click Make GIF and download the animation.
Worked example
Four images, half a second each
With a frame time of 0.5 s, four frames make one 2 second loop. GIF stores delays in hundredths of a second, so 0.5 s is saved as 50. The output details show the frame count and loop length read back from the finished file.
How it works
Each image is decoded by the browser and drawn onto a canvas at the chosen width (the height follows the first image), fitted or cropped, over the background colour, and saved as PNG. FFmpeg then reads the frames through an ffconcat list that sets each frame's duration, and builds the GIF in one pass with palettegen=stats_mode=full and paletteuse. Because the concat reader rounds timestamps, the tool then writes the exact delay of every frame into the Graphic Control Extension blocks.
Assumptions
- Transparent areas are filled with the background colour.
- Frame times are rounded to hundredths of a second; browsers slow down delays shorter than 0.02 s.
- All frames share one palette of up to 256 colours.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. The file is processed by FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, running inside your browser. Only the engine itself is downloaded (once, from cdn.jsdelivr.net); your video, audio or images never leave your device.
What if my images are different sizes?
All frames use the same size, taken from the width you set and the first image's shape. Other images are fitted inside with background bars, or cropped to fill if you choose that option.
Can I set a different time for each frame?
Yes. Turn on "Set a different time for each frame" and a time field appears under every frame.
Why does the first run take longer?
The first time you use any of the video and audio tools, your browser downloads the FFmpeg engine, about 31 MB. It is stored in your browser, so later runs on this device start without downloading it again unless you clear site data.
Limitations
- Up to 100 frames, 20 MB per image.
- Transparency is not preserved.
- Browsers limit how much memory a page can use. Very long or high resolution files can fail with an out of memory message, especially on phones and tablets.
- Photos with smooth gradients look grainy in GIF because of the 256 colour limit.
