How to use the AI Resume Builder
- Pick a template, paper size (A4 or US Letter) and date format.
- Fill in your details, summary, experience, education and skills. Add optional projects, certifications and languages.
- Reorder or remove entries with the arrow and bin buttons. The preview updates as you type.
- Optionally use Improve bullet points or Write summary. Review the suggestion and select Use this only if every line is true.
- Select Download PDF. Export JSON to keep an editable copy you can import later.
Worked example
One job, three bullet points
An Operations Coordinator role started in March 2022 with "I currently work here" switched on shows as "Mar 2022 - Present" (or "03/2022 - Present", or "2022 - Present", depending on the date format). The sample resume fits on one A4 page in all three templates, and the PDF contains real text that applicant tracking systems can read.
How it works
Your resume is turned into an ordered list of blocks (name, contact line, section headings, entries and bullet points). The preview renders those blocks as HTML. The PDF is created in your browser with pdf-lib using the standard Times or Helvetica fonts: each block is word-wrapped using the real font widths and placed on pages with automatic page breaks, keeping headings with the text that follows them. The AI buttons send only that section's text to the AI model with instructions to rephrase it without adding employers, dates, numbers or achievements.
Assumptions
- Standard PDF fonts cover Western European characters. Other scripts (for example Chinese, Arabic or Cyrillic) are replaced, and the tool warns you when that happens.
Frequently asked questions
Is it ATS friendly?
The templates are single-column, use real selectable text and standard section headings, with no tables, columns, icons or text inside images. That is the layout applicant tracking systems read most reliably. No tool can guarantee how a particular ATS will score a resume.
Where is my resume saved?
In this browser only, using local storage, so it is still there when you come back on the same device. It is not sent to our server. Clearing site data removes it, so export a JSON copy to keep it safe.
Will the AI make things up?
It is instructed to only rephrase what you wrote and never to add employers, dates, metrics or achievements. AI can still make mistakes, so the suggestion is shown for review and nothing changes until you accept it.
Do I need the AI features?
No. The builder, preview, PDF export and import or export all work without AI. The AI buttons are optional helpers.
Limitations
- PDF fonts support Western European characters only; other characters are replaced with a warning.
- Page breaks in the PDF can fall slightly differently from the on-screen preview.
- No photo, columns or custom colours, by design, to stay ATS friendly.
- The AI helpers need an AI provider configured by the site administrator and are rate limited per day.
